Strengths:    Extremely versatile, good looks that fit in while on or off the bike, comfortable.

Weaknesses:    Easy to nit-pick, but for what it does, it does it very well... no complaints.

Bottom Line:
I was concerned after ordering these shoes and then reading Matthew's review about how heavy these were. First, I find the shoes to be comfortable, walk well (flex in the toe and far-heal), but are still reasonably stiff for riding. Given the GTX, breathability, and Vibram sole, these things are one deluxe multi-purpose shoe that I am excited to use on a daily basis (to be my commuting and adventure riding shoe). I thought they were true to size, or a bit on the small side for their size.

Regarding weight, I made the following measurements with a good self-calibrating food scale for your reference (all are my shoes at about a size 43):
MT-70 fresh out of the box - 1010g
Rugged Vibram soled hiking boots - 2130g (more than double)
Light ASICS running shoes - 654g
Chaco Z2 vibram hiking tread SANDALS - 1027g

Did you catch the last reference? My sandals weigh more than these MT70s!!! No, the MT70s aren't light-weight, but I don't think they feel heavy either, especially given the vibram sole.
Note: Weights are for the pair. 28g ~ 1oz, 16oz per pound.

Strengths:    Nice design, goretex and vibram make them not only decent biking shoes but also allows to hike (or run uphill with bike on your back).

Weaknesses:    I found them a bit too high around ankle and they hurt me until I put extra insoles inside.

Bottom Line:
These are my first SPD shoes and am very pleased. All shoes I could find looked way too sporty. I use bike to go to the mall or work, not only for the 1000km trips; how would I look in the office in those shiny shoes? Like astronaut! This is why when I saw SH-MT70 I was immediately very interested. Those look as good with Lycra padded bike shorts as with jeans pants. I was planning trip to few Indonesian Island, which included 1300km (800miles) biking but also some hiking and climbing volcanoes. I am back and can tell you that shoes worked just fine for those 3 weeks. I did not have any other shoes, so I was wearing them all the time. Temperatures here are usually about 32'C (90'F) and humid, but I did not feel any discomfort (even though as European I am not used to the heat like this). Both biking and hiking were OK. I got into the water but my feet remained dry, soles are not slippery on rocks or roots, due to Vibram. I was lazy to take cleats off, so I hiked second highest Indonesian volcano with them on and still did not slipped. Someone said shoes are heavy. My not-precise-at-all scale says a pair together with cleats is about 1000 grams. Is it much? I didn't feel like I wore anything heavy.

Strengths:    Traction, vibram rubber sole, gore-tex waterproofness. Look good. Stiff.

Weaknesses:    HEAVY! Like wearing anchors on your feet. I have worn full-size hiking boots that were lighter than these.

Bottom Line:
Way too heavy. I could not get over how outrageously heavy they were. I returned them. I don't have a scale, but based on shipping weight, these probably weigh 1500g/pair. These are most useful for serious winter riding or for a hiking/MTB boot combination.

Strengths:    Very comfortable, and very easy to get into. The stretch band on top is good for hiding the laces, and it has excellent traction. Also, the space for the cleats is spacious enough for keeping the cleats from sticking to much out.

Weaknesses:    There is not easy access to "under" the inner sole, and you cannot additionally seal up the cleat "hole". I don't hink it matters, as I have not had any leaks into the shoe, though I have been though enough water.

Bottom Line:
So far very happy customer, and it is a good looing show too.
