MTB OCup Races

(Scroll down for the event schedules)

The Ontario Cup is the OCA’s premier racing series. To help provide high quality and consistent races, the OCA is proud to have chosen Chico Racing as the official event organizer for the entire 2010 MTB O-Cup schedule of events.

Introduction

2004 Kelso O-Cup
For riders who enjoy challenging courses and competing against riders from across the province, the Plastiglas Ontario Cup Mountain Bike Series is for you.  The OCA offers an XC O-Cup Series, 7 events in length finishing in spectacular fashion with the Provincial Championships.

The XC series traditionally starts the last weekend in April and concludes with the Provincial Championships in August/September.  Events are typically scheduled monthly and the series always includes the Canada Cup at Hardwood Hills.  Only the best venues in the province host Ontario Cups with each venue adding its own twist for riders.  It might be a highly technical hilly course, a high speed flat course or a cunning combination of the two.  Whichever type of course it is, it will be fun to all riders.

O-Cup riders are categorized based, first by age, then by ability.  Riders earn upgrade points to upgrade to the next higher ability category.  Ontario Cup points are awarded to all categories.

Who can Participate?
Riders who are at least 10 years of age as of December 31, 2010 can participate in the Ontario Cup XC Series.

What Type of Membership is Required?
In order to participate in an O-Cup you must be a racing member of the OCA.  However different categories have different restrictions. Click here for a guide to selecting the type of membership that suits your needs.

If a rider has been licenced as an Expert/Elite within the previous year (or obtained the mandatory upgrade points in Sport), they cannot race Sport at an Ontario Cup XC race on a 1 day permit. They will be required to purchase a UCI licence and race their former ability. Riders can appeal this to the off-road licensing committee. The OCA reserves the right to apply this rule to former expert/elite regardless of years away from competition or circumstance. The purpose of this is prevent experienced riders from racing and placing in the top 3 in multiple O-Cups in Sport on 1 day permits.

Registration
Riders can register at the event but it is to their disadvantage.  Pre-registering reduces waiting in line the day of the event (the Pre-Reg line is always shorter and quicker) as well pre-registering makes sense economically. Entry fees for pre-registration are typically $8 less for XC.

Pre-registration and registration for Ontario Cups are processed by the Organizer.  For more information please contact Chico Racing and for more information on the Canada Cup/Ontario Cup please contact Pulse.

Ontario Cup Points
Ontario Cup points are awarded to all categories as a measure for riders to compare with the OCA recognising the top three per category. One-Event Racing Permit riders are not entitled to earn O-Cup points.

The breakdown of O-Cup points is as follows:

Place Points Place Points
1st 25 11th 11
2nd 22 12th 10
3rd 20 13th 9
4th 18 14th 8
5th 17 15th 7
6th 16 16th 6
7th 15 17th 5
8th 14 18th 4
9th 13 19th 3
10th 12 20th 2

O-Cup points earned in the lower category will be divided by 3 and each lower category race will count as one race.  For example a rider who earns 9 O-Cups points in each of their 3 sport races, then upgrades to expert will earn 3 O-Cup points for each of these individual sport races. In the overall expert series, the best 5 results are used for tabulation. Each of the sport events would count as one individual expert event with 3 O-Cup points. Riders who upgrade during the season are not eligible for series awards in their former category. For clarification, please contact the OCA office. Season ending O-Cup XC point totals will be based on the rider’s 5 best results. Riders are not required to start the Provincial Championships to be eligible for Plastiglas Ontario Cup Mountain Bike Series awards. Series awards presentations will be conducted at the Provincial Championships.

Leader’s Jersey
The overall leader of the Ontario Cup Ranking, for x-country only, will be awarded a leader jersey which he/she must wear as the leader for the next Ontario Cup event. These leader jerseys will be given to the Junior/Cadet Expert Women, Master 30-39 Expert Women, Master 40+ Expert Women, Senior Elite Men, Senior Elite Women, Junior Expert Men, Master Expert Men 30-39, Master Expert Men 40-44, Master Expert 45-49, Master Men 50-54, Master Men 55-59, Master Men 60+, and Cadet Expert Men upon the start of the next Ontario Cup Event. See the announcer to receive your jersey and the information will be posted at the registration area.

Competition Results and Protests
If a rider has a race problem/protest at an event they should deal immediately with the Chief Commissaire at that event. The Chief Commissaire’s decision shall be final. If a rider wishes to further appeal the decision, a written protest must be filed to the Provincial Chief Commissaire c/o the OCA within 10 business days.

NOTE: Any race result discrepancies must be reported to the finish commissaire within 15 minutes of being posted at the event. Following this 15 minute period, results are considered final and are signed off as official.

Policy concerning athlete in possession of a NORBA domestic licence. These participants will be permitted to purchase a one-event membership in the equivalent category as stated on the NORBA domestic licence.
