mountain bike clubs brisbane

Brisbane MTB Association Inc

Brisbane MTB Association Inc. aims to provide the governance and organisation that attracts and engages junior riders to the sport of mountain biking.

The club will:

  1. Provide a program of social rides, skills clinics and annual competition calendar to our members to enable them to enjoy mountain biking.
  2. Promoting, developing and advocating junior mountain biking as a healthy sporting and recreational pastime.
  3. Fostering and maintaining constructive relationships with cycling organisations and key stakeholders.
  4. Providing a safe and fair environment for competitive and recreational mountain biking.

Mountain biking is a sport that consists of riding bicycles off-road, often over rough terrain. Mountain bikes share similarities with other bikes, but incorporate features designed to enhance durability and performance in rough terrain.

Mountain biking can generally be broken down into multiple categories: cross country (XC), trail riding, all mountain, downhill, freeride, dirt jumping and trials. The vast majority of mountain biking falls into the recreational XC, and Trail Riding categories.

This sport requires endurance, core strength and balance, bike handling skills, and self-reliance. XC type mountain biking generally requires a different range of skills and a higher level of fitness than other types of mountain biking.

Multi hour mountain bike races are a form of enduro mountain bike racing where solo competitors or teams race for periods of 4, 6, 8, 12 or 24 hours.

One teaser event will be conducted in late 2012 and the series is scheduled for terms two and three in 2013.

The expanded program of clinics and events will roll out in term two of 2013.

Parents will be welcome to contribute. The social ride program will require parental involvement.

The club, coaches and promoters will be affiliated with Mountain Bike Australia (MTBA).

Skills clinics

Skills clinics will be delivered by MTBA endorsed level 1 and 2 coaches.

Interschool MTB Competition

The Interschool MTB Competition will be a team series of four races. Each race will be a three or four hour enduro conducted at venues in the greater Brisbane area.

The competition is open to all schools.

Team Categories

U13 Dirtmaster and U17 Junior Boys; Girls or Mixed teams of three riders.

Teams race in a relay, taking turns to complete a lap of the course.

Scoring

There are two alternative methods of determining the winner.

The usual winner is the team or rider that completes the most laps with the first lap after the clock has ticked over 4 hours counting to the result, i.e.

Team A covers 8 laps in 04:03:06
Team B covers 9 laps in 04:12:09
Team C covers 9 laps in 04:45:23

The ranking would be:
1st: Team B
2nd: Team C
3rd: Team A

Social Rides

The club will provide a regular social ride schedule. The schedule will nominate dates and times for members to arrive at designated meeting places in the greater Brisbane area ie Gap Creek Reserve, Bunyaville and Daisy Hill State Forests.

Other locations may include Nerang and Mount Joyce Recreation Park.

The social rides will be managed by parents. The club will provide a best practice guideline for conducting social rides.
