Northstar to open mountain bike park June 7
Warm weather and early season trail maintenance will allow Northstar California to open its lift-served mountain bike and hike park early this summer.
The park is scheduled to open June 7, weather permitting. Riders and hikers of all levels can try downhill and cross-country mountain biking on some of the most popular trails in the region.
The resort’s bike event schedule is also filling up quickly with races and the return of the Tahoe Trail 100, a qualifying event for the Leadville 11. In addition, instructors at Northstar’s Bike Academy are fine tuning programs for those interested in getting into the cycling or improving their skills.
“We continue to elevate the mountain biking experience at Northstar through trail development and with signature events drawing riders of all ability levels,” Andy Buckley, director of resort skier services at Northstar, said in a press release. “Our trail crews have new features planned and are working to improve our trails. We have also expanded our popular cross-country bike race series to include Saturdays.”
Other events include the Gene Hamilton Downhill Mountain Bike Camps, LUNA Chix Women’s XC Clinic with Katrina Nash, Thomas Vanderham Bike Camp and the Industry Cup. For more information on specific events, visit northstarcalifornia.com
Northstar’s mountain bike park will be open Friday through Sunday between June 7 and June 28. Daily operation begins June 28, though the park will be closed July 8-15 and Sept. 27-29 due to the Tough Mudder events. The park will continue daily operation through Aug. 18 and will return to Friday-through-Sunday operation until Oct. 6.
Helmets are required for all riders and can be rented along with bikes and other equipment at the resort or online in advance. Daily lift tickets are $48. Discounted multi-day options and season passes are available.
With the opening of the mountain bike park, the resort will also resume its scenic chairlift rides for sightseeing and hiking. Daily tickets will be available for purchase in the Village at Northstar at the ticket and pass office. Lifts will operate for scenic lift rides and hiking during the same hours of operation as the mountain bike park.
