Shirk's is the best bike shop in the northern part of the county. There are several other Amish/Mennonite shops within a 10 mile radius, but none have the selection or experience. There are several other independent stores, but they seem to be pricier. Shirk's strikes the perfect balance of customer service, reasonable prices, and selection. The store itself is small and easy to miss, but the packed parking lot and test riders on the roads nearby will give it away. Trek and Raleigh are among the major brands carried, but they will service anything that rolls through the door. I also recently had a fitting to my mountain bike ($50), and Dave did a great job getting me more comfortable on it. They carry everything else a bike could ask for- or its owner. Used bikes are also available upstairs.

In fact, after buying my mountain bike used, another well-known shop near Lebanon took my money to perform a "tune-up"...which didn't solve the problems, and may have caused more. Shirk's immediately had made three identifications of issues overlooked and made the corrections. That's what I'm talking about!

The only downside of  Shirk's- which is a testimony to its success- is the wait time to get a bike in for service. My experience is two-weeks out...don't expect to roll it in through the door and have it worked on that minute...

Also, Shirk's has a significant blackhole when it comes to having a website presence. However, um...considering the ownership, it's understandable. Also, it doesn't seem to hinder its popularity!

I essentially pass two other big shops to get to Shirk's, and that is driving a Suburban...and it is worth every cent to know my bike is being tuned properly.

I stopped back in to Shirk's recently for a bike jersey, and although they had several in stock, they didn't seem to have a reasonably priced one in my size.  The one I liked was $70, which was out of budget.

I'm not downgrading my rating, just letting it be known that they don't necessarily have EVERYTHING in stock.

This is one of those secrets you want to keep to yourself. Found at the edge of Lancaster County Amish country you will find yourself driving through corn fields looking at the buggies and the horses pulling the plows in the fields. After turning onto Ligalaw go slow, Shirk's will pop up on the right at the base of the knoll. Go slow when pulling into the parking lot there may be a dozen or so trying out bikes in the parking lot and on the road. When you walk inside and there is never a shortage of work being done from repairs, to fitting the next Armstrong on their new bike. Don't be worried it won't take long to look at your next race winner or park cruiser, you will be pleasantly surprised, there is always some to help you. You will be able to try all different types of iron horses until you find the one that is made for you. The best part is there is no pressure to move up to a more expensive bike, to do this you will have to ask. Asking will give you all of the details to make your decision on which will be the best bike for you. Going in know one thing, the type or ridding you plan on doing, they can t answer this for you. When you get there tell Dave I said hello!
