  I needed a bike I could ride to the gym (too far to walk, too short to drive guilt-free). I had seen some positive testimonials about Kettering Bike Shop on Reddit, so I decided to check them out.
  
  The shop itself is bright and clean, with the bikes all neatly arranged and accessible. I browsed around until I had settled into the mountain bike section. I started to feel a bit confused and started rubbing my chin, hoping the other customers wouldn't notice I had no idea what I was doing. As if on cue, a voice piped up from my periphery, "Is there anything I can help you with?" (or something similarly anodyne and pleasant)
  
  I turned to face the Kettering Bicycle Shop staff member. Like the shop itself, this employee was also bright and clean. (She was quite knowledgeable and had excellent grooming.) I explained what I was looking for, and she listed a couple of options, each option followed by the general pros and cons of that option. This helped me to narrow things down. Once I had narrowed my decision down to two bikes, she compared the two bikes against one another. This was awesome. Normally, before I make a purchase, I would have to go home and research, forming an aggregate opinion from multiple online reviews. Not this time! I walked in and walked out with my new bicycle in less than 15 minutes!
  
  At no time did this staff member try to "sell" me a bicycle. She was knowledgeable, helpful, and attentive. At no time was I pressured to buy or made to feel like a noob due to my complete ignorance of bicycling. All in all, things went much better than expected.
