WINNSBORO — Carolina Adventure World, an outdoor park in Fairfield County, is a dream spot for all-terrain vehicle and dirt bike enthusiasts.
The park sits on a 2,600-acre plot with over 120 miles of trails and tracks. Riders can also enjoy two different mud bogs and a rock crawl. CWA (Carolina Adventure World) will be heavily toured this Memorial Day weekend with several special events. Night rides will be going on throughout the weekend at 10 p.m.
If you do not own a four-wheeler or dirt bike, rentals are available. On Sunday, the Mid East Hare Scramble starts at 8 a.m. Hare Scramble participants named CWA one of their favorite tracks last season.
CWA’s Event Coordinator Al Mitchell knows for the park’s special events to be successful he and his team have to plan well in advance.
“It’s like anything else, you have to plan it and you have to advertise it in order to have success,” Mitchell said. “It takes a good bit of planning.”
Participants are encouraged to stay overnight with RV camping, tent camping and log cabins all available to rent. To make a reservation, call 803-482-3534. All sites are equipped with picnic tables, water and electricity at an affordable price. In 2012, CWA earned the Attraction of the Year award by the Old English District, which is made up of seven counties including Fairfield.
With so many amenities and benefits to offer, the only downside about CWA is that it is a hidden gem and still waiting to be discovered by many South Carolina residents.
John Webster, the park’s vice president and Chief Operating Officer, believes it is just a matter of time until the discovery is made.
“They’re (residents) really surprised to learn that we’re out here,” Webster said. “We work very hard with Terry Vickers (Fairfield County Chamber of Commerce) to get people out here. And once they come and learn about the track of land we have along with all the different activities that are available they always comeback.”
CWA will be open from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. On Memorial Day they will be open from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.
