Dirt bikes stuck in the mud Featured
Rain on Friday set the scene for a long weekend of dirt, or should it be the Mud Bike State Championship Racing at Morris Park Speedway.
Riders from across Australia converged on the circuit which has been progressively redeveloped during the past five or six years.
Dubbo Dirt Bike Club’s publicity officer Robyn Lappa said rainfall initially presented some difficulties.
“Mother Nature wasn’t too kind on the eve of the first day’s racing,” she said.
The heavy track led to disappointment for the mini-bike riders after officials ruled it was too heavy and dangerous for them to ride safely.
“Motocross NSW unfortunately had to make the decision to cancel the 50cc and all 65cc classes as the riders were not getting traction leaving them stuck in the mud.”
There was no such disappointment for the juniors who faced the challenging and slippery track with gusto.
The seniors event held on Monday was fought under much more hazardous conditions, with a heavy downpour early in the morning creating a muddy morass.
“The Championship Pro Open was only a small class and some great skill from these guys showed they can ride in the worst conditions,” Robyn said.
Full credit goes to Jason Blake and his Dubbo Dirt Bike Club for creating such an amazing complex.
There is no doubt NSW officials will be back with even more events in the future.
“Lots of good positive comments were made over the weekend both at the tracks and through the social media,” Robyn said.
“Dubbo Dirt Bikes showed they can host such a large event like the State titles.”
