Scheme gets students on their bikes
STUDENTS in Somerset can now look forward to an easier and more sustainable way of travel to school with a rent or buy a mountain bike scheme run by the Moving Forward team at Somerset County Council.
New 2013 Saracen Tufftrax mountain bikes will be available to college and sixth form students for the 2013/14 academic year.
The bikes are being provided to help students with limited travel options to access college or sixth form sustainably and cost effectively.
The bikes, worth £290, are available as a school year-long loan for £49, plus an £89 deposit.

Nicole Keitch, 17, regularly uses her bike to get to college.
She said: "The scheme is great. It was a big help because I couldn't afford to buy a new bike at the time and without a bike I would have had a half-hour walk to a bus stop or a one-hour walk to college.
"It only takes me 20 minutes on my bike.
"I would definitely recommend the scheme."
Last year 70 students benefited from the Moving Forward initiative.
To be eligible, students must already be enrolled on or be planning on attending a further education course between September 2013 and June 2014.
For more information and to apply, visit www.movingsomer setforward.co.uk/bike-loan or call David Mitchell in the Moving Somerset Forward Team on 01823 356789.
There are two application periods, the first, for current students, ending on June 16 and the second, for new students, on August 25.
