This is probably considered an endurance ride, on Peter Skene Ogden Trail, a single-track mountain bike trail that runs along the north side of Paulina Creek. The trail is not technically difficult; still, it is a continuous 5.75-mile uphill. Please bring your stamina. You’ll see a large number of waterfalls along the trail, varied terrain and some sand. The trail starts off as a former logging railroad spur. Look carefully and you will see steel rail on the hillside.
Two years ago we did this one in August and were practically devoured by mosquitoes. Last year we did it mid-June and it was perfect. Hoping for an encore to last year.
We’ll meet at 6 p.m. at Brew Werks to carpool to McKay Crossing. We’ll start at 6:30 at the McKay Crossing Campground. Sunset is at 9:01, so that should work out nicely.
The downhill is on the other, south side of the river along a jeep trail. It’s quite fast, with beautiful views. Keep the weight off your front wheel, as there’s some sand.
Please bring water, a strong headlamp, emergency bike-repair gear, and appropriate clothing for inclement weather.
The north side trail is uphill only and shared with horses and hikers — so everyone has right of way over us MTBers.
