HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. – Phase one of the Hendersonville Bike Park opened to the public Tuesday, showcasing dirt jumps, pump tracks and more during a "soft" opening at Jackson Park.

More than 50 people showed up for the opening and over half were kids on bikes. With helmets strapped on, they poured onto the track and rode some laps.

Mountain Community School and Avery's Creek Elementary's bike clubs were also at the event.

The first phase took about 1,000 volunteer hours to complete, Pisgah Area SORBA representative Rodney Robinson said, adding that the park is a safe place for kids to come and ride their bikes.
