large mountain bike frame

BMC Fourstroke MOUNTAIN BIKE Large Frame with parts - $750 (Boulder)

BMC FOURSTROKE FS03 Custom Ultralite 19" (large) Mountain Bike Frame, DT SWISS 180 shock with lockout and everything you see in the photos. The frameset is a NOS 2009 model that wasn't built up until April 2013, so it is in MINT condition with no scratches or dents at all. I am moving to Guam for the next 18 months and cannot take it with me, as they only let me ship one bike, so my loss is your gain! Here is a basic list of what you get, but remember, if it's pictured, you get it, so this list isn't complete:

Fox Talas R32 100-120-140 fork
FSA ZS3 integrated headset
68mm BB shell width
Shimano XTR FC-M970 Triple crankset w/ bottom bracket
Spinergy Xyclone disc wheelset with 32 carbon spokes-spoke wrench included.
Kenda Smallblock 8's 26x2.1
SRAM PG990 Redwin cassette
XCR carbon seatpost
Easton EA70 Monkeybar with FSA stem
Frame weighs 5.5 lbs, bike as pictured is ~20lbs
100mm swing arm travel w/APS suspension design (No tailbob on the climb)
Original owners manuals

The size: 19" seat tube height, 20.5" top tube length, which is ideal for riders between 5'11 and 6'3". I'm 6'0" and the setup fit me perfectly. The only thing you need to complete the build is a rear derailleur, shifters, and brakes (minus the rotors). Cash only!! No trades, checks, money orders or payment plans. Call (808) 492-6945 or email with questions. Thanks.

mountain bike rear brakes

DT Swiss 350 Center Lock Disc Brake MTB Rear Hub

The 272g DT Swiss 350 Center Lock is the perfect hub for the rider looking for the most affordable high performance hubs available. Available in 28 or 32 hole options. The DT Swiss 350 line offers similar manufacturing and design features found in its higher end counterpart, the DT Swiss 240s hub range. The main differences between the hub lines stem from the fact that the 240s line has been machine optimized for weight savings where as the 350 has not.

This hub is compatible with all Center Lock disc brake rotors. If you're using standard ISO disc brake rotors, check out the DT Swiss 350s ISO Rear Hub.

Inventory Note: We stock a wide variety of DT Swiss hubs, however our inventory fluctuates daily. We may need to order hubs with an average lead time of 2-7 business days. Some hubs may take longer. If your order is time sensitive we encourage you to contact us for up to the minute product availability and shipping lead times.

speed mountain bike

Pros and Cons of a Single Speed Mountain Bike

Many people would probably say that there aren’t any pros to riding a single speed mountain bike.  But that’s where they’re wrong!  There are many pros to riding a single speed mountain bike, and here’s a few that I would say are considerable.

PROS:

  • Cost:  Usually single speed bikes will be cheaper than a similar bike with gears.  This is due to the huge decrease in hardware required for a single speed mountain bike (SSMB).  A multi-geared mountain bike would typically have two derailleurs, two shifters on the handle bars, and more cogs and sprockets for the additional gears.  None of that hardware is required on a SSMB. Which leads into the next pro of riding a SSMB.
  • Weight:  Without all the typical hardware of a multi-geared mountain bike, your overall bike weight will be considerably lighter.
  • Efficiency:  A single speed mountain bike has the chain going directly back from the front sprocket to the rear sprocket.  This means that there is no possible bend in the chain from front to back like there typically is with a multi-gear bike.
  • Maintenance:  Because there are less functioning parts on the bike, there are less parts to take care of and maintain.  This means that there is a lower possibility of something breaking while riding out on trails, and less work to be done off trails.
  • Concentration:  You can concentrate more on the path ahead of you than shifting, and planning downshifts for hills etc.
  •  Cleaner Look:  The look of your bike will be cleaner and simpler.  There are no shifters on the handlebars, and no derailleurs in the front or back.

CONS:

  • Pedaling Efficiency:  The bike is not very efficient outside of its gearing range.  For example the gear ratio might make it hard to pedal up hills, or it may not be a high enough gear ratio to accelerate down hills.

Seems like there are a lot more Pros than Cons.
